Essay
Todays education focuses on preparing the youth of today for every day life in the future. This means preparation on preparation for the next level of education. What we tend to forget is that every day life starts today, rather than tomorrow.
Students today, from as early an age as 15, have a job next to going to school. A part of the money they earn is cut back by taxes. This is money they have a right to receive at the end of the year. Only a small percentage of the scholars and students know this, and so a huge portion of students miss out on money they've already earned. We come across the same problem when we look at student insurances. Just like with tax-returns, insurances are not common with the young people of Dutch society. Even when in this country insurances are cheap and easy to get. There is information everywhere on the intenet and sporadic commercials on the television or radio or during intro-weeks of universities. But is this enough? To know your way around taxed, to know what you have a right to get, having insurance, these are things you need to know and have for the rest of your life. Why do we have to stumble through these things by ourselves, and don't we get any guidance in our education?
